Ireland - Donegal to Derry

Derry's Peace Bridge across the River Foyle links the predominantly Protestant side with the predominantly Catholic side of Derry. 'London' was appended to the name of the town of Derry when finance was obtained from the City of London to construct new walls and buildings in 1613 - 1618. These were to protect the English and Scottish settlers who had been granted land here during the 'Plantation of Ulster'. This 'planting' was done to bring the rebellious Gaelic/Irish under control of the English crown.
